Council has endorsed the Local Government Infrastructure Designation (LGID) for the ARRC precinct at Stapylton, marking a significant milestone for the project.

The LGID provides the planning framework to deliver Council's long-term vision for the ARRC precinct and supports the delivery of essential waste and resource recovery infrastructure for the Gold Coast.

This milestone follows an extensive assessment process involving State Government agencies, technical studies and opportunities for community and stakeholder feedback.

A Local Government Infrastructure Designation (LGID) is a planning pathway available under Queensland legislation for certain community and regionally significant infrastructure projects.

The process includes detailed technical assessments and consultation requirements, with input from relevant State Government agencies before a designation can be approved.

For ARRC, the LGID establishes the planning framework for the precinct. Further assessments, approvals and regulatory requirements will still apply as individual facilities are progressed.

Council's endorsement is the final Council step before the designation is published in the Queensland Government Gazette.

While the LGID is an important planning milestone, the project remains subject to ongoing environmental approvals, licensing requirements and regulatory oversight.

The precinct's Commonwealth environmental assessment is also in its final stages, with submissions from the recent EPBC consultation process currently being addressed before documentation is provided to the Federal Environment Minister for consideration.

Community engagement has been an important part of the planning and assessment process.

Feedback from residents, businesses, community groups and stakeholders has helped inform technical investigations, project planning and ongoing refinement of the proposal.
